Description: In all its solemnity and grandeur the SMC family celebrated the 71st Republic Day of their motherland. The 26th of January , 1950 was the auspicious day when we metamorphosed into the world’s biggest democratic republic. Our leaders underlined the hard earned freedom of our nation with the implementation of our Constitution, the most complex piece of legislation in the world. SMC revives the spirit of patriotism among its students every year through the celebration of this prestigious event. The Republic Day was celebrated on 26th January 2020 at St. Mary’s Convent Inter College, Prayagraj The Chief Guest for the occasion was Rev. Father George Stephen, Professor St. Joseph’s Regional Seminary, Prayagraj. The school welcomed him with a bouquet. The programme commenced with the unfurling of the national flag by the Chief Guest. The school saluted the tricolor and the surroundings reverberated with the singing of the national anthem. An inspiring assembly was conducted by Class 8 E. The students highlighted the importance of 26th January as on this day our motherland was declared a Republic and the Constitution of India came into force. The students prayed to the Almighty for the well-being of each and every citizen of our motherland followed by readings from the Holy Scriptures. The school echoed with patriotic fervour as the choir sang ‘Tiranga Lehrae.’ A meaningful skit was presented portraying the religious and cultural diversifications of India, and how despite these diversifications, in the end Indians stand united. Through the messages given by the students an awareness was created amongst the gathering regarding the importance of secularism in India. Our county is known for its secular approach to people of various communities and religions. This aspect has lead to constant peace and harmony amongst all. Creative banners portraying steps which we as students can follow to contribute to India’s progress were showcased. The choir sang a medley of patriotic songs. Mrs. S. Afrin, a senior teacher of SMC emphasized on the contribution of the youth as torch bearers of our motherland and said that they are the ones who will guide the country towards a bright and prosperous future. The vote of thanks was proposed by Kinza Ahmed. The programme concluded with the slogan . ‘ Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ , led by the Vice Head Girl, Garima Joshi.
