Description: “Mary Ward is God’s gift to the church and to the world for she brought to the women, a new dimension.” -Mother Teresa The foundress of St. Mary’s Convent Inter College , Prayagraj , Mother Mary Ward was born on 23rd January, 1585 in Yorkshire, England . Every year the institution celebrates ‘Mary Ward Week’ from 23rd January to 30th January and pays tribute to their foundress and cherishes her values and virtues. This year too the school gathered in the assembly ground to celebrate this great occasion. The students of Class 8 presented very creatively a meaningful assembly on 23rd January depicting the early stages of the life of Mary Ward and how she gradually followed the spiritual path and learnt to sacrifice her life for the good of others. The choir sang melodious hymns ‘Mamma Mary’ and ‘Kitna Mahan Hai Tera Naam.’ The assembly made the students aware of the driving force of Mother Mary Ward to lead her life according to the will of God with great trust in Him. The assembly also highlighted the aim of education according to Mary Ward that is the full growth of the person in his/her God – given talents and to be persons of Character, Competence, Competence , Compassion and Commitment . The celebration of the birth anniversary of Mother Mary Ward brought the students closer to the dream and vision of their foundress and inspired them to live meaningfully. In her message to the school the Principal Sr. Jyoti said that it was a day of happiness and pride for the Congregation of Jesus to celebrate the birth anniversary of their foundress Mother Mary Ward who was a great pioneer of education. Sister urged the school to accept the challenges and hardships of life by taking example from the life of Mary Ward and to live life meaningfully with enthusiasm. She motivated the students to have a free minded vision to achieve their goals in life and hoped that this celebration would bring them closer to the dream and vision of Mary Ward. On 30th January, 1645, Mother Mary Ward departed from this world having lived 60 years and 8 days. To mark the death anniversary of Mother Mary Ward, an insightful assembly was conducted by the students of Class 8 F , portraying the struggles of Mary Ward in laying the foundation for the education of girls. The hardships and challenges incurred by Mary Ward were showcased through a tableau and a heart touching song ‘ Nearer to thee God’ was sung. The assembly made the students aware about the zealous spirit of the foundress of the institution. Important events in the life of Venerable Mary Ward such as the ‘Gloria Vision’ , ‘Take the Same of the Society ‘ and the ‘Vision of the Just Soul’ were beautifully depicted. Mary Ward’s firm belief that, ‘ Women in time to come will do great things’ has been the inspiration of generations of women who followed her footstep. Today Mary Ward’s institution exists in forty five countries across five continents, which included the Congregation of Jesus (CJ) and the institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBMV Loreto). The Sisters of the institute have been giving their best to the service of value based education and to uplift the poor and continue to share the charisma and legacy of their foundress Mary Ward. A tribute was also paid to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary. Mahatma Gandhi believed in God’s Plan for his life, motivated others and gave his life in fulfillment of that dream. In her message to the school, Sr. Sarita CJ, Principal , St. Mary’s Convent Junior College of Education, Prayagraj said that although it is the death anniversary of our foundress Mary Ward, it’s a day of rejoicing because even on her deathbed, Mary Ward asked her companions not to be sad but to rejoice in God as death was a passage to eternal life. She asked her companions to sing and rejoice which is symbolic of life in abundance. Sister Sarita said that the spirit of Venerable Mary Ward is alive not only in the members of her institute but in all the empowered women who dream of great things. She said that the Congregation of Jesus is privileged to carry on her legacy and keep burning the lamp of heritage handed over in 1645. Mary Ward week in indeed a time when the students of SMC pay tribute to their foundress and get to know more of her beliefs, values and traditions.
